Description
This book is a facsimile of a book of hours that belonged to Jeanne d'Evreux, Queen of France from 1324-28. It contains a calendar marking the Catholic feat days, hourly prayers to be devoted to the Virgin Mary and St. Luis (Jeanne's ancestor), and the text of the psalms. Jean Pucelle richly illuminated it with full-page scenes from the lives of Christ and St. Luis, as well as human figures and fantastical creatures in the margins of the text. The original is housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Cloisters Collection.
